We have produced a special nautical chart of the Dalälven River outlet, where Skutskär Boat Club has its harbour, commissioned by Älvkarleby Municipality. The chart will be available in most electronic nautical charts by this summer.
On the west coast, an area west of Orust has been surveyed (red frame in the image on the left) and has received a distribution permit. Previously, we surveyed the area Härmanö – Käringön – Mollösund (green frame), and we have a plan to map the entire area within the blue frame, provided that we obtain hydrographic survey permits and distribution permits.
The new chart will be available in most electronic nautical charts by this summer.
At Hydrographica, we observe that the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Maritime Administration do not exactly make our work of creating better nautical charts for recreational boaters easier. While waiting for greater maritime safety engagement from the authorities, we have committed ourselves to another project focused on the Baltic Sea. We have taken on the role of publisher for an unusual book. It is unusual in many ways.
But the book – called The Sea of Friendship – is, in our opinion, also unusually worth reading. It consists of a collection of stories from the waters and coasts of the Baltic Sea and highlights the strong bonds formed between the countries surrounding it. The content covers many topics, with well-known and knowledgeable authors contributing to the diversity. Everyone should be able to find stories worth reading. Did the Swedish east coast perhaps become populated from the east? Why do the boats along the coasts look so different? How did “King Valdemar’s sailing route” in Finland actually go, and how was the pilot system later established? And icebreaking!? How did the optical telegraph work, and from what stations? Legendary worldwide cargo shipping from Åland, how did that happen? And how did Linnea manage to live alone, blind and deaf, on her island yet still in contentment? We have much to learn from the fates of coastal inhabitants.
The first edition of Stockholm’s Middle Archipelago was published in the spring of 2019, and it is now time for the second edition. This new edition covers the same area as before, and the entire area has been reviewed and updated with previous corrections.
Our planning and overview charts at a scale of 1:100,000 are highly appreciated, and for 2024 we have updated and printed a new edition of the overview chart of Lake Mälaren. This new edition has been updated with new buoyage and other important revisions.
In late spring 2023, we published Sweden’s first nautical chart based on both LiDAR (laser) and 3D photogrammetry. It covers the shallow archipelago around Lurö in Lake Vänern, which now has a detailed and safe chart. Lurö and Eken archipelagos are presented in a 24-page detailed small craft chart in ring-bound A3 format.
This detailed small craft chart, at a scale of 1:10,000, covers the shallow and difficult-to-navigate areas of the Lurö and Eken archipelagos in central Lake Vänern, located between Värmlandsnäs and Kållandsö. The surveys in the Lurö archipelago have largely been carried out with a new and highly accurate laser technology. Our previous A2 charts of Läckö, Billingsön and Naven are replaced by this small craft chart, but the charted area has been expanded, and the entire region has been thoroughly reviewed based on new high-resolution aerial imagery and supplementary echo-sounding surveys in 2022.
After a long period of unreasonable administrative bureaucracy from the Swedish Maritime Administration, we have finally been able to print our long-awaited nautical charts of the northern outer Stockholm archipelago.
The two 45-page detailed small craft charts cover the entire area from Arholma in the north to Björkskär in the south, and all the way out to Svenska Stenarna. They are now available in our online shop and in well-stocked marine supply stores.
A complete and modern harbour guide for the stretch of coast from Höga Kusten to Arholma has long been missing. Now, on the initiative of the boating associations along this coastline, we have produced a brand-new harbour guidebook – Hamnguiden 10.
Hamnguiden 10 describes all guest harbours along the coast, as well as both well-known and lesser-known natural harbours and club harbours. Each harbour is presented with aerial photos, charts, and descriptive text.
In the summer of 2023, a new and completely revised detailed small craft chart of Storsjön was also released. It is a successful example of our cooperation with local boat clubs and boating associations.
The boat clubs’ volunteers carry out the hydrographic surveying and data collection according to Hydrographica’s specifications. Hydrographica is responsible for data processing and chart production. The boat clubs handle the sales, and the chart therefore cannot be purchased directly from Hydrographica.
