The Sea of Friendship – Stories from the Baltic Sea
by several authors (Published by Hydrographica, also sold in Finland by the publisher Libraria, www.libraria.fi)
As the global situation becomes increasingly uncertain, the realization that the Baltic Sea countries have a deeply rooted community is also growing. Here, this community is highlighted with stories from the coast and waters of the Baltic Sea. Was Sweden even colonized from the east? What did the boats look like, and how were they built? How could one travel between countries and how did the pilotage system develop? The mail was conveyed at the risk of life, but the optical telegraph was faster. And what human destinies unfolded among the coastal population, in Sweden and Finland, but also in the Baltics.
The Sea of Friendship tells about all this. Everyone can find interesting articles in the book’s smörgåsbord of shorter and longer stories—most of them newly written by knowledgeable authors. Some classic descriptions of the archipelago are also included and the book is richly illustrated.
The book is a given in the ship’s library, but fits just as well on the shelves of coastal residents. It has been created through non-profit efforts to create financial contributions to the work of improving the health of the Baltic Sea.
